Natalie's Daisy Scout troop got to go see what happens to our garbage after it gets hauled away in the garbage truck. We visited the MRF (Materials Recovery Facilities) in Roseville and learned all about it. Have to say, it was a pretty interesting trip. It is one of the most sophisticated recycling centers in California, recycling more than 50% of the garbage that comes to it (about 1000 tons a day!!).
Stephanie giving us a "tour" of the facility before we head outside.
Everyone in their safety gear!!
The "tipping floor" because the garbage trucks tip the garbage out.
Checking out the family of honkers living in the runoff water from the compost
Compost
Checking out the sorting conveyer belts.
This stuff is headed to the landfill.
